Panagia Kastriani Monastery in Kea
Home » Blog » Activities
Kea is one of the best places to visit in Greece. It’s the perfect place for a romantic getaway, a vacation with family or friends. Also known as Tzia, it is currently less well known to visitors than the other Aegean islands. Looking for a real change of scenery away from the crowds? Kéa is one of the small, authentic islands of the Cyclades, and a great alternative. In addition to its fishing ports, ancient treasures, natural landscapes, beaches and villages, the charming island of Kea also boasts monasteries that are well worth a visit. Visit the Panagia Kastriani monastery in Kea.
Visit Panagia Kastriani Monastery
In Kea, the monastery of Panagia Kastriani was built at the beginning of the 18th century following the apparition of the Virgin Mary to shepherds who had been guided by a mysterious light one night in 1700. Today, pilgrims from all over the island and the world come to this sanctuary to celebrate the Virgin Mary. For this reason, visit on August 15, Assumption Day. What’s more, this monastery was founded on a rock overlooking the sea. You will have the impression of being between sea, sky and mountains. In fact, the blue and white of the campanile, inner courtyard, facade and cupola match those of the Aegean Sea, not to mention those of the Greek flag. All in all, it’s a haven of peace if you want to recharge your batteries and find yourself.
Where to stay in Kea ?
Stay on the island of Kea, on the west side, in a beautiful villa built on a 1,100 m² plot. The property is just 150 m from the seafront. This comfortable home is close to the village of Vourkari. You’ll be living in a pleasant, authentic environment. You can also choose to rent a spacious villa for 9 people on the east side of the island, in the Agios area. Then take a dip in the sea, just 5 minutes from the house, or enjoy the private pool. Or opt for a villa in the Melissaki area, close to the seaside tavernas. This villa, in an elevated position, offers an excellent view of the surrounding islands. Finally, you’ll enjoy access to an infinity pool, cinema area, dining area and direct access to the sea!
