Kea beaches
When you come to Kea, the Cycladic island closest to Athens in southeastern Greece, you’ll arrive on a little corner of paradise in the Aegean Sea. You will be amazed by the contrast between the arid landscapes of the southern part and the lush greenery of the northern part. However, you’ll notice that all around the island, you will find an astonishing number of beaches and dozens of little coves to swim in.
Discover Kea beaches
Whether you are looking to relax, practice your favorite water sports or simply get away from it all, Kéa’s beaches and sandy coves are easily accessible on foot, by car or by bus. Others can only be reached by boat, so you’ll have plenty of time to plan your sea outings.
The first place to visit is the main beach of Koundouros, in the south of the island. It’s a popular little seaside resort where you can enjoy the activity of your choice: fishing, sailing, stand-up paddling and so much more. Sailing lessons are available on site. There’s also a children’s playground. Ideal for families.
The sandy beach of Gialiskari between Korissia and Vourkari is also a friendly beach, much appreciated for its lively atmosphere. In a natural setting with pine and eucalyptus trees, it’s a great place to bring the whole family.
If you head north of Kea, you’ll come to the long beach of Otzias, the largest on the island and so beautifully rounded! One side is developed, the other rather untouched and wild. In addition to its size, it stands out from the other beaches thanks to its public benches, which give it an original touch.
If you want to swim in crystal-clear waters, head for Pissès beach. It’s also ideal for seaside lunches and even shade, thanks to the trees that line it.
You can also visit the magnificent beach near the ancient city of Karthéa, with its churches, monasteries and archaeological sites. It’s important to note that access to the beach is on foot, so plan on walking along a footpath for around 1h30. Another more relaxing option is to take a boat trip and moor alongside this beach.
Considered the most beautiful beach on Kea, don’t forget to take a dip in the clear waters of Spathi beach. It’s a large stretch of sand in the northeast of the island, in the heart of a natural rocky desert setting.
Where to stay in Kea?
During your stay in Kea, you can rent a luxury property. If you like to live high up in the mountains, you can rent a villa with beautiful views over the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands. If you’d like a change from swimming in the villa’s pool, before you leave the villa, follow the little path down from the house, and after about 20 m, you will have direct access to the sea. You are not far from the port and restaurants either. If you are a small group of up to 10 people, this is the house for you. It’s spacious enough to accommodate a large family or groups of friends. From all sides of the house, you will have a splendid view of the sea, and you can admire the magnificent panorama at sunset. For those looking for privacy, luxury and comfort, choose a villa in the Agios Seris area on the east side of the island. Here you will find a villa just 5 minutes from Tilefragos beach, in the heart of a magnificent natural landscape. You will be completely enchanted by the natural surroundings.
