Menorca’s south coast, feet in the water.
Welcome to Menorca, where coves roll along crystal-clear beaches. From Sant Lluís to Cala en Turqueta, let yourself be carried away by these lines before embarking on your journey to paradise.
The island of Menorca offers a vast choice of maritime panoramas, where the blues of the Mediterranean Sea and sky blend into the horizon. Regular flights from France to Mahon have only recently begun, so take advantage of the landing phase to start dreaming. The coves and stretches of wilderness seen from the clouds are a feast for the eyes – the vacation can begin! In Catalan, coves are called “cala”. Spain‘s Coastal Law forbids building on this small island, so take the opportunity to enjoy the Camí de Calas trail that circles the island. This path was built by the French as a sentry walk to prevent pirate attacks. Today, on foot or by bike, travelers can discover Cala en Turqueta or Cala en Talaier along a hiking trail. The gentle slope lets you discover the sea view a hundred meters away. Continue along the Camí de Cavalls to reach the village of Cala Galdana. Here, you can relax on the sandy beach with your feet in the warm water. You can rent a small motorboat to reach the rocks, which will take you to Cala Mitjana, a hundred meters further east. With all the region’s assets within easy reach, Bellavista offers you the chance to add a whole new dimension to your trip. Look for the authenticity of a mansion where the terrace overlooks the Mediterranean. Former estates of notables, our mansions are often accompanied by their century-old olive groves.
Rocky and fiery, this natural paradise in the Mediterranean seduces with its contrasts. You’ll discover bucolic valleys and fragrant forests, all under a permanent blue sky. Rent a car and take to the road to explore the unspoilt island of Menorca. Once you’ve had breakfast, the sea will be waiting to wake you up, so what better way to explore than the town of cala en Porter? This town is a reflection of Menorca’s sober, authentic architecture. Our dream villas for rent, just a stone’s throw from the beach, will give you the ideal feeling of well-being. Enjoy a huge living room to impress your guests and eat your favorite Majorcan dish. The authentic interior, with its exposed beams, takes you back to the unique world of the master olive growers of the 1800s. The large outdoor estate is arranged around its centerpiece, the palm-fringed swimming pool. Feeling peckish? You can start the day with a pastry in a Majorcan setting. The ensaïmada is a spiral-shaped cake sprinkled with powdered sugar. This pastry from the 1800s is served with chocolate and cream.
The name of the Balearic archipelago comes straight from the Hellenic world of antiquity. The Βαλλιαρεῖς (Balleréis) was a Greek, then Roman military colony. The prime location served to protect against Arab attacks from Carthage or Turkish attacks from Byzantium. The island of Menorca was a popular destination for Europeans from very early on. Italian chroniclers of the 1200s were full of praise for the archipelago, calling it “one of the most beautiful lands in the world”. Catamaran rentals are available so you can escape to the blue horizons of the Mediterranean. Follow the path taken by thousands of sailors throughout history and sail wherever you please from calas to calas.
Menorca’s rural setting is raw, and you’ll see hundreds of small walls against the fields, meant to protect the villagers’ crops. In Menorca, you won’t find any sprawling resorts or DJs who are the king of the night. It’s a place where calm and cleanliness prevail, as evidenced by the natural biosphere reserve. All species of birds find refuge here, proving that locals and tourists alike respect the place. Our dream villas are havens of peace where the sun’s rays stream in through numerous windows. Enjoy a luminous day in your villa, where art takes pride of place, right up to your bedroom overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Relax to the sound of migratory birds and the scent of the olive trees that surround our properties. When the afternoon comes, you can enjoy a meal of Grimalt. The local cheese is delicious served with pork sausages. Ask for the cheese to be shaped like a “coca de trampó”, lightly heated and garnished with locally harvested seasonal vegetables. The afternoon is ideal for nature walks.
Drive ahead and plan to hike one of the most idyllic stretches, between cala des Talaier and cala de Galdana. Known as the GR223, this trail is over 220 kilometers long. The camí de cavalls means “horse trail” in Catalan. It was originally designed to link the watchtowers to each other, and to quickly take an attack. There are twenty crossing points, corresponding to the twenty towers and observation posts that Menorcan horses had to link up at top speed. These splendid black horses are twice the size of men, so they can reach speeds of up to 80km/h. The French built this road in the 14th century, when they controlled the island. Nowhere will you get lost, thanks to the red signs that serve as landmarks for a serene stroll. Horse-riding is part of Menorca’s identity, and you can find out more about it in our article on the subject.
Bellavista offers a range of villas, each as luxurious as the next. Each one has its own particular appeal, but all are located just a short distance from the camí de cavalls hiking trail, with the most sumptuous calas just a ten-minute bike ride away. If you’d like a preview of your future vacation, we invite you to watch a video clip of one of our most beautiful luxury homes in Menorca – we give you the right to dream! We offer a second note of authenticity for the pleasure of your eyes: our luxury villa, with its design combining sobriety and authenticity with a touch of modernity, is a jewel, and we hope it will become the chosen one of your heart. In the evenings around the pool, you can dine on everything the Mediterranean has to offer, from cod to fresh oysters and calamari, feasts are a daily occurrence. Those who prefer meat will enjoy a lechona, a delicious roast suckling pig usually served on special occasions. Finally, you can enjoy a sobrassada, a pork-based pâté eaten with bread. In the evenings, you can enjoy a beachfront home, where contemplating the sunset is a pleasure that your guests will not regret. We hope this introduction to beaches has given you enough of a taste for the real thing. We’ll finish this article with two amazing places on the island, but this time inland.
On the island of Menorca, you can discover some amazing burial chambers. All in white, these five-metre-high stone cubes are called Naveta d’Es Tudons. They are heaps of stone in the shape of an upturned ship’s stern. The Gymnaean islands (Mallorca and Menorca) are home to prehistoric constructions known as Talaiot. These are small stone towers that also flourish in Corsica and Sardinia under the name of nuraghe. Along Menorca, you can discover the Taula (table, in Catalan), which rise to a height of almost four meters. These are T-shaped megaliths. The island of Menorca is full of beautiful secrets to discover, and our luxury villas are obviously among them. Enjoy the ultimate in serenity, where the warmth will be with you from the moment you wake up. What could be more beautiful than breakfast on a dreamy terrace at 25°?
