If you love nature and wine, a wine tour in Chianti is one of the best ways to discover Italy. You’ll be able to follow several itineraries to discover its cellars, vineyards, inhabitants and much more. In the evening, after a day full of activities and entertainment, you can relax and recharge your batteries in one of Chianti’s most beautiful villas.
A DAY IN THE CHIANTI
As Chianti is renowned for its production of Chianti Classico wines and excellent extra virgin olive oil, it’s sure to delight wine-loving tourists. You can start by choosing a visit to one of the many historic wineries near Florence, during which an experienced guide will illustrate the various stages of wine production. You can also taste the various local wines and products while enjoying the charming gardens and admiring the vines. For example, your tour could start in Greve in Chianti, where you’ll admire the main square of the ancient market and browse the local craft stores. If you take the La Chiantigiana road (SR 222), one of Italy’s most scenic roads, which starts south of Florence, you will pass through the heart of Chianti Classico. Most wineries are open to the general public, but it’s always best to check in advance for opening times and days. Then make an appointment to visit a family-run winery in the Chianti Classico region of Siena. The winemakers offer a warm welcome, a guided tour of the cellars and gardens, and a tasting of local produce. To round off your visit, you can head for Castellina, a fortified hilltop village of Etruscan origin that is considered the liveliest and most picturesque in Chianti. It is characterized by an imposing fortress where you can admire the equally picturesque houses, squares and stores along the covered Via delle Volte.
A PRIVATE VISIT IN THE CHIANTI
Opting for a private Chianti wine tour is another way to discover this enchanting Chianti region, which will take you from the north of Florence to the south of Siena. You’ll be accompanied by a private, specialized, English-speaking local driver, who can drive up to 7 people. He’ll show you the Tuscan countryside and its magnificent landscapes, its cellars and its most renowned wineries. High-quality wine tasting sessions are included in the price. If you wish, you can also attend cooking classes and enjoy lunch at a local organic farm.
